Personal Action: Beth Reilly, Stay-at-Home Mom
Beth Reilly doesn’t fit the activist mold. This former teacher, now a stay-at-home mom, lives with her husband and three small kids in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Beth is tight with her MOPS friends (Mothers of Pre-Schoolers) and active in Aldersgate United Methodist Church. She’s also one of Indiana’s toughest Darfur advocates. When I first became aware of what was going on in Darfur, through a series of reports by NBC correspondent, Ann Curry, I didn't think there was anything I could do about a tragedy on the other side of the world even thought it deeply disturbed me, but a combination of events led me to a different conclusion-one that would have a serious impact on my life. Personal Action: Paul Gasque, Minister
As a United Methodist minister, I attended the South Carolina Annual Conference held in Florence, South Carolina the first week of June 2007. On the third day of the conference a resolution came before the Conference dealing with the crisis in Darfur. I must confess that until this time, I had been somewhat oblivious to events in Darfur. Having limited knowledge of the Darfur crisis and even less of its full implications, coupled with my being removed geographically, rendered me apathetic at best at that time. Read more
Church Action: Ginghamsburg Church
Ginghamsburg Church is a United Methodist congregation in Tipp City, Ohio, a small city of 9300 people just north of Dayton in the heart of the “rust belt.” When Lead Pastor Mike Slaughter arrived at Ginghamsburg 29 years ago, he inherited a 104-year-old small country church on a quarter of an acre with less than 100 people and an annual budget of $27,000.
